Do I need to have AI active to use Automatic Translations?
No. Automatic Translations works independently and does not require Recollective AI to be enabled on your site. Analysts and moderators have access to translations by default, and admins can control which languages are visible to participants and which roles can export translated data.
Who can use Automatic Translation?
Analysts and Moderators have full access to translations by default, with no additional setup required. Clients can view translated responses by default, but they can only export translated data if they have that permission set. Participant-facing translations will be enabled by default when a study includes multiple participant languages.
Are there limits on which languages can be translated?
All 27 languages supported in Recollective’s UI can be auto-translated. See here for more details of language support in Recollective.
What content can Recollective automatically translate in a study?
Recollective can automatically translate activities, task instructions, questions, study settings, participant responses, comments, and follow-ups into any of the 27 supported UI languages. Researchers can also export all text-based responses—such as transcripts and discussion content—in a chosen language in bulk, eliminating the need for external translation workflows.
Do I need to do anything to trigger the translation?
Translations are processed automatically inside all newly created studies when the feature is enabled. Automatic translations are now enabled for all multilingual studies, requiring no manual configuration. Select your Study Languages and refine which languages are visible to participants. After that, just click the language icon beside any text area to switch into the language you wish to see.
How are translations configured and managed in new and existing studies?
For new multilingual studies, Automatic Translations is enabled by default once you select your Study Languages, and translations process automatically without manual configuration. For past studies, your Recollective support team can apply translations on request, and admins can refine language visibility and override specific translated text where needed.
Does Recollective use or keep Automatic Translated text to train their AI?
No, Recollective never keeps customer data and does not use your data to train our AI. All data, both in original language and translated language format, remains the property of the customer.
Is it safe to use AI-powered translations for sensitive research data?
Yes. Recollective never keeps customer data for its own use and does not use your data—original or translated—to train AI models without prior consent. Translations are processed under strict data privacy, confidentiality, and security requirements, aligning with enterprise expectations and regulations such as GDPR and HIPAA.
